Secure Office Remote Logon

Secure Office places smart card authentication and an encrypted tunnel between the administrator and the remotely administrated machine so that an organisation can benefit from the advantages of remote administration software such as Tivoli, Telnet and NetOp while still maintaining high security standards.

  • Provides smart card/encryption security for remote administration of network servers and workstations.
  • Ensures that remotely administered computers accept commands only from a smart card identified administrator.
  • Eliminates clear text transmissions of passwords during remote administration.
  • Ensures that confidential information, administration commands and system configuration information cannot be intercepted, read, or changed by intruders.

Remote administration of computers is increasingly common because of the significant cost benefits when servicing a large number of workstations, print servers, file servers etc. Many tasks can be automated, and the administrator does not have to physically visit each computer to update user account information, examine the logs, install software or configure the machine.

Although a computer may be secure during normal use, under remote administration it can be vulnerable. Information travelling between the administrator’s machine and the computer can be intercepted, administrator accounts can be exposed and system command can be open to hi-jackers. This can allow subsequent access to either the computer or your organisation’s internal network. Public servers that have been placed outside your firewall are a particular vulnerability because they constitute an open network connection through the firewall. Secure Office requires the administrator to be authenticated with a smart card and enables encrypted tunnels to protect the traffic during remote administration.
